Join Us In A Food Friendly Competition

Do you have the best chili in the area?  Or perhaps a long held family secret for the perfect pie crust?  Kids -- can you make the most awesome cupcake?  Here is your opportunity to show off your culinary skills and earn bragging rights for the best pie, chili or cupcake in town!  The Grove City Area United Way is seeking entrants for its annual pie baking contest and chili cook-off that will take place at the joint Fall Fest/Grove City Area United Way Community Day on October 8th at Memorial Park.  And new this year, we'll be holding a youth cupcake contest for ages 8 - 18.

The popular pie baking contest will again feature four categories of pie entries: nut, cream, fruit and other.  All cream pies that are entered will need to be kept cool.  The competition will then heat up for the Chili Cook-Off.  Chili needs to be kept in a crock pot or have some means of maintaining a temperature of 165 degrees until judging is completed.  Electrical outlets are available.  Youth entering the cupcake contest will need to bring two dozen of each kind of cupcake entered.

Pies, chili and cupcakes need to be delivered to the park between 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.  This will allow enough time for the entries to be judged, prizes awarded and winners to be announced.  Prizes will be given to the Best In Show winner for pies, chili and cupcakes.  Prizes will also be awarded to the first-place winner in each pie category and the first place winner in chili and cupcakes.

The public is invited to taste the region's top cooking talent.  Slices of pie, bowls of chili and individual cupcakes will be sold to the public after judging.  This will be the fifth year for the fundraiser, which benefits the Grove City Area United Way's Day of Caring fund.  The "Community Day" portion of the Fall Fest will include children's and family friendly activities.

Pies, chili and cupcakes entered in the contests will be considered a donation to the United Way.  Winners will be announced during Fall Fest.  To obtain entry forms, email the Grove City Area United Way office or call 724-458-4527.  Entry forms are also available here.

The deadline for entries is Thursday, October 6th.
